FN/RN
SERIES INKS
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
FN/RN series inks are formulated for flexo and gravure surface printing
onto a range of papers and NC coated foil.
SUBSTRATES:
FN/RN series inks have good adhesion and printability on a range of
coated and uncoated paper and board. They are also suitable for printing
on NC washed foil.
PROPERTIES:
FN/RN series inks have good scuff and abrasion resistance on a range
of substrates. They will give good colour strength at normal printing
viscosities. FN/RN series inks are heat resistant from 120°C to 170°C
and suitable for printing in heat seal areas. Specific requirements should
be advised to Coates Lorilleux. Colours will have a reasonable degree
of light fastness, but may not withstand prolonged exposure to sunlight.
If light fast inks are required this should be stated at time of ordering.
If resistance to soap or any other products is required this should be
specified at time of order. FN/RN series inks are not suitable for lamination.
PRESS CONDITIONS:
FN/RN series inks can be printed at most printing speeds without problem.
Where fast print speeds are used, it is recommended that efficient drying
units are utilised. High rewind tensions are not recommended.
REDUCERS:
The recommended reducers for FN/RN series inks are:
Normal: Ethanol/Ethyl acetate.Slow: N-propanol/N-propyl acetate.
These can mixed in the ratios of 4:1 to 3:1 alcohol to ester for flexo
printing with FN series inks, or 2:1 for rotogravure printing with RN
series inks.
Retarder: Glycol ether maximum 5 %. Isopropyl alcohol can be used to
replace ethanol. However, this is may be detrimental to the printability.
WASH UP:
Alcohol ester blends.

This information has been carefully compiled from experience gained in
field conditions and detailed laboratory testing. However, the product's
performance and it's suitability for the customer's purchase depend on
the particular conditions of use and the material being printed. We recommend
that customers satisfy themselves that each product meets their requirements
in all respects before commencing a print run. Since we cannot anticipate
or control the conditions under which our products are used, it is not
possible to guarantee their performance. We would point out that the information
provided here is only a recommendation, and may need to be altered to
suit the conditions and efficiency of the equipment employed. Coates Lorilleux
