HR
SERIES INKS
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
HR series inks are heat resistant inks formulated for rotogravure and
flexo surface printing onto a range of films, paper and foil.
SUBSTRATES:
HR series inks have good adhesion on treated polypropylene and pearlised
OPP as well as polyethylene. To ensure good adhesion the minimum treatment
should be 40 dynes/cm. HR series inks are also suitable for printing onto
paper and NC coated aluminum foil. HR inks should not be printed onto
coated films such as MB777. Please contact Coates Lorilleux for recommendations
for printing this type of film.
PROPERTIES:
HR series inks have good adhesion on a range of substrates giving good
scuff and abrasion resistance. They are suitable for deep freeze packaging,
although this requirement should be advised to Coates Lorilleux prior
to ordering. HR series inks are heat resistant from 120°C to 170°C and
suitable for printing in heat seal areas. Colours will have a reasonable
degree of light fastness, but may not withstand prolonged exposure to
sunlight. If extra light fast inks are required this should be stated
at time of ordering. HR series inks are not suitable for lamination.
PRESS CONDITIONS:
HR series inks can be printed at most printing speeds without problem.
Where fast print speeds are used, it is recommended that efficient drying
units and chill rollers are utilised. High rewind tensions are not recommended.
REDUCERS:
The recommended reducers for HR series inks are:
Roto: Normal: Ethanol 50% /Ethyl acetate 50%Slow: N-propanol 50%
/N-propyl acetate 50%
Flexo: Normal: Ethanol 80% /Ethyl acetate 20% Slow: N-propanol
80% /N-propyl acetate 20% Isopropyl Alcohol can be used as a substitute
for Ethanol, although this may lead to inferior gravure printability.
Retarder: Glycol ether maximum 5 %. Excess Glycol should not be
used as this can cause solvent retention and blocking.
ROLLERS AND STEREOS:
Being alcohol rich, HR inks for flexo applications can be run with most
normal rubber rollers and stereos. Photopolymer plates may also be used
with high alcohol diluents, but this requirement should be advised at
time of order to ensure that the correct formulation is being supplied
for these plates.
WASH UP:
Alcohol ester blends.
Note:
This information has been carefully compiled from experience gained in
field conditions and detailed laboratory testing. However, the product's
performance and it's suitability for the customer's purchase depend on
the particular conditions of use and the material being printed. We recommend
that customers satisfy themselves that each product meets their requirements
in all respects before commencing a print run. Since we cannot anticipate
or control the conditions under which our products are used, it is not
possible to guarantee their performance. We would point out that the information
provided here is only a recommendation, and may need to be altered to
suit the conditions and efficiency of the equipment employed. Coates Lorilleux
