PLM SERIES OF PE LAMINATION INKS

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

PLM inks are formulatd for reverse printing by flexo or gravure of treated Polyethene film for subsequent adhesive lamination in combination with suitable adhesives.

SUBSTRATES:

PLM inks are suitable for printing onto pre-treated polyethene film. Treatment levels should be between 38 and 44 dynes to ensure good adhesion.

LAMINATION PROPERTIES:

Printed Polypropylene film can be laminated with suitable adhesives to Polyethene. The bond strengths achieved are a function of the substrate, adhesive type and the filmweight of adhesive applied. It is normally necessary to achieve minimum filmweight of adhesive to achieve acceptable bonds. The required combination of print process, substrate and adhesive should always be evaluated before use.

COLOUR RANGE:

PLM inks are available in a range of colours. The pigment have reasonable lightfastness but may not be suited to extended exposure to direct sunlight. If this property is required it should be stated at the time of ordering and pigments of appropriate fastness will be utilised. Inks may not be resistant to all post printing conditions. Special requirements should be specified at time of order.

REDUCTION:

Gravure: Normal: Ethanol : Ethyl acetate 2:1 Slow: N-Propyl alcohol : N-Propyl acetate 2:1

Flexo: Normal: Ethanol : Ethyl acetate 3:1 Slow: N-Propyl alcohol : N-Propyl acetate 3:1

Retarder: Glycol ethers maximum 5% Use of slow solvents such as glycol ether should be kept to the minimum to avoid possible solvent retention and blocking.

PRESS CONDITIONS:

PLM inks may be run at speeds of 50 to over 100 m/minute dependent upon press drying capabilities and the solvents used for reduction. Care should be taken that sufficient drying capacity is used, and the use of chill rollers is recommended, to minimise the risk of blocking. High rewind tensions are not recommended.

ROLLERS & STEREOS:

If inks are required for flexo application this should be stated at time of order. Being alcohol rich, PLM inks for Flexo application can be run with most normal rubber rollers and stereos. Photopolymer plates may also be used with high alcohol diluents, but this should be discussed firstly with our technical service personnel to ensure the correct formulations are being supplied for these plates.

WASH UP:

Ester/alcohol blends.

Note:

This information has been carefully compiled from experience gained in field conditions and detailed laboratory testing. However, the product's performance and it's suitability for the customer's purchase depend on the particular conditions of use and the material being printed. We recommend that customers satisfy themselves that each product meets their requirements in all respects before commencing a print run. Since we cannot anticipate or control the conditions under which our products are used, it is not possible to guarantee their performance. We would point out that the information provided here is only a recommendation, and may need to be altered to suit the conditions and efficiency of the equipment employed.
